Work and Involvement with the RACGP

Many congratulations to Adjunct Associate Prof Frank Jones on his recent election success and appointment to President of the RACGP. A crucial and important time for our Profession and the College. With the College membership supporting Frank, I am sure that he is up for the challenges ahead. The uncertainty within the profession is worrying, with the proposed $7 Co Payment, loss of GPET and winding down of Medicare Locals, all occuring in the same period.

Our response, as a profession wide group, to the threat to Nurses time and Health Assessment payments, has shown that with a united and clear voice, we can certainly have a great deal of impact and say, in the way general practice and the broader arena of Primary Care, goes forward.

The PCEHR is undergoing continuing challenges, but progress continues to be made. Unsurprisingly progress is slow, but the government has committed to the process and concept. My involvement with the Independent Advisory Council to the PCEHR, has ensured that I can be up to date with any new changes and progress.

GP14 is in Adelaide this year. I will be travelling overseas on this occasion, a family wedding calling me to the UK. I'm sure that it will be a great event, as always!

As always my aim remains to consider any position and opportunity, that will further general practice as a profession and make the work of GPs easier and even more rewarding. Hopefully, my involvement with the Perth Central and East Metro Medical Local will mean that I will be well positioned to help influence the direction that the future Primary Health Networks will take.

The video clip to the left, gives some of the background as to issues that I see as being important for our profession.
